Edward Ruscha's OOF

Edward Ruscha's painting called OOF is on display at the Museum of Modern Art. The word "Oof" belongs to the world of comic strips. Ruscha rendered the word in oil and acrylic on canvas (1962, reworked 1963), giving the silly onomatopoeic grunt an incommensurable monumentality. OOF is suspended between image, language and icon (from the gallery caption).
